15 Minutes (The Pelican’s Briefs Theatre Comedy)

By | Published on Wednesday 14 August 2013

Laura Neal should be commended for bringing to life an excellent, hyperbolic parody on the nature of modern celebrity and the moral depravity of fame for fame’s sake. Taking the audience into a disquieting dystopian future where intellectual values and ethical scruples have all but been quashed by mindless gossip mag culture, 15 Minutes tells the story of one man’s isolation in the face of endless celebrity vacuity. A consistently humorous script, rippling with acute satire, is delivered with verve and youthful vibrancy by The Pelican’s Briefs Theatre Company, making for a highly rewarding hour of silliness, mirth and facial reconstruction. Impressive performances all round from a cast who make remarkably economic use of stage and props make this a thoroughly entertaining show; let’s only hope they don’t end up famous, if only for their own sake…

C aquila, until 10 Aug, 12.15pm.
