A View From The Bridge (UCLU Runaground)

By | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013

In theatre, there is often the danger of thinking too much; to exchange an immersive story for self-indulgent clues. Refreshingly, there are no such problems here. Cleverly, the thinking has mainly been left to Arthur Miller, and Runaground triumph in bringing ‘A View From The Bridge’s beating heart before your eyes. Raw, visceral performances are combined with humour and authenticity in a story about envy and the inadequacy of law in a ‘civilised’ 1950’s America. Scenes range from enchanting to downright pitiful, culminating in an act that’s filled with rage and desperation. This is a stripped down, powerful production that’s not only a great reinvention, but a hell of a play in its own right.

Zoo, until 16 Aug, 9.35pm.
