Adam Smith, Le Grand Tour (Compagnie Les Labyrinthes)

By | Published on Monday 26 August 2013

Here is a play that takes the tropes you’d be more likely to find in a documentary for children and uses them with great aplomb to create something informative and innovative that is not quite theatre, not quite non-fiction. A synergy of film and performance, and unafraid to address the audience one minute and venture into an entirely surrealist depiction of breaking into a graveyard in army fatigues the next, Mary and Fred Smith journey through the life of the economist Adam Smith in a story that is touching and full of energy. Economics might not sound exciting, but this performance was convincing, impressively constructed and had just the right level of silliness to capture the audience’s imagination.
