Agamemnon (The Theatre School)

Like the ancient Greek actors before them, the young people in ‘Agamemnon’ are hidden in half, three-quarter and full face masks. Unfortunately, this has the effect of requiring the actors to convey their roles using just their voices and body language, something which is largely out of the cast’s reach. This poor directorial choice is further compounded by the script, which has a great deal of declaiming and difficult language. Clytemnestra – aided by having the smallest mask and best part – manages to convey some degree of scheming malice and Cassandra has a nicely manic effect. Overall, though, like the house of Atreus, this group never escape the curses laid upon them by their director

Greenside, until 24 Aug, 7.40pm.
