ED2013 2/5 Reviews ED2013 Theatre Reviews
Dying On Stage (Hawthornthwaite Productions)

Roy Stacey is at the top of his game as a TV quiz show host. With his personal life in ruins, he has kept up a jolly face for the crowds for 25 years. But on the eve of his departure from the show, its producers make a false allegation that will ruin his reputation. This one-man-show tries to explore themes of personal fulfilment, weighing ambition against family and relationships. However, the plot at times developed abruptly in ways that didn’t quite seem realistic, and it was difficult to see why Stacey learnt the things about himself that he did. Perhaps it was this being a one-man-show, and the lack of dialogue with other characters, that made it difficult to trace the changes in plot and character. Either way, this was not a show that I felt emotionally connected to.
Lauriston Halls, until 17 Aug, 7.30pm.
