Harder Please (Aimee Levey)

By | Published on Monday 19 August 2013

Sometimes everyone feels they’re being screwed by the government. Stretching this one gag to pleasingly surreal extremes, this deeply ironic parody follows a masochistic Londoner beginning a new life as a willing slave to the whims of the super-rich. Aimee Levey is both a competent performer and a provocative writer, convincingly skewering a range of topics here, from Austerity to submissive sexuality. Her challenging script rewards attention, but could be tighter. Occasionally unfocused, the show practically begs for more overt humour, because what there is demonstrates a sly wit and a gift for inventive vulgarity. If subversive satire or gratuitous David Cameron based sex fantasies are your thing, this may well appeal. Just don’t tell anyone your preference.
