It’s Not What You Know (blotTHEATRE)

This is very much a struggling thespian’s (satirical) musical; and as such is perfect for many attendees of the Fringe. The young, keen and naïve protagonist struggles to find a decent acting job, as all her peers outshine her. Saddled with a duplicitous agent and shattered dreams, she careers from one disastrous audition to the next. There are some hilarious adaptations of songs, from ‘The Lion King’ to ‘Hairspray’, performed by a highly accomplished cast. However, I disliked the final conclusion that female actors must strip off to get on the career ladder – though this is sadly probably closer to reality than satire. Despite this, the production is a hilarious and catchy piece of musical theatre.
