My Pregnant Brother (Johanna Nutter)

By | Published on Friday 16 August 2013

Johanna Nutter offers the autobiographical tale of her brother’s pregnancy, and the resulting changes within her family. The narrative is beautiful; so lyrical and imaginative that it becomes almost poetic, a mood which is in turn aided by the transience of the set. Using chalk, Nutter draws a map of the places she has lived on the floor and walls. As the play progresses, the chalk dust footprints cover the stage, highlighting the impact of our decisions and movements by making them visible. Digressions in the narrative are intelligently placed, and provide enough momentum to drive the story forward. A poignant account of a remarkable tale, the responsibility of family and what rejection of that responsibility entails.

Pleasance Dome, until 26 Aug (not 13), 2.50pm.
