The Ants (American High School Theatre Festival)
By Julian Joseph | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
‘The Ants’ is a plotless dramatisation of the works of E.O. Wilson and Bert Hölldobler, two insect experts. The group prove to be extremely versatile in interpreting their passionately-written, scientific texts, looking at the complex lives of ants. Who knew they were so interesting? The set pieces are big, impressive and tightly choreographed. Other scenes, such as one depicting a princess starting a new colony, are incredibly atmospheric, making superb use of lighting and dance. Some scenes are hilarious, others are extremely exciting, such as the one examining the different ants’ warlike behaviour. This show is very abstract and, though occasionally a little over the top, interesting and impressive, carried by an extremely enthusiastic and talented cast.
Pilrig Studio, until 8 Aug, 4.30pm.
