ED2013 1/5 Reviews ED2013 Theatre Reviews
The Vacuum Cleaner (Ferodo Bridges)
By Andy Leask | Published on Tuesday 20 August 2013
This is billed as ‘the worst show you will see at the Fringe’; there’s some stiff competition, but it is definitely in with a shout. An absurdist hybrid of sketch show and unconventional theatre should be right up my street, but this self-indulgent waste of time isn’t nearly as clever as it thinks it is. Punctuating your sketches with the cast staring at the audience, house lights up, may seem clever, but breaking the fourth wall is not new, is not ground-breaking, is not revolutionary or anarchic. One performer naively assumed we were being made uncomfortable by this… is boredom discomfort? Avoid at all costs; if you do go, you can’t say they – and I – didn’t warn you.
theSpace on North Bridge, until 24 Aug, 9.05pm.
