Robin Ince – Importance Of Being Interested (Lakin McCarthy Entertainment Ltd / The Assembly Rooms)

By | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013

In his only performance at the Fringe this year, Robin Ince crammed as much material as he physically could into an hour. As a result the pace was rapid, and the laughs came thick and fast. Ince refers to himself as a ‘science populariser’, a job description as pioneering as his comedy. On the way in I heard it described as ‘the thinking man’s comedy’; but having seen the show this strikes me as an unnecessarily pretentious phrase for what Ince does here, which is to make science incredibly accessible and funny. Rather, ‘the curious man’s comedy’. Ince is full of enthusiasm and infectious energy and is curious about everything. A bizarrely inspirational performance.

The Assembly Rooms, 6 Aug, 12.30pm.
