The Paper Cinema’s Odyssey (The Paper Cinema and Battersea Arts Centre)

I am impressed, and for good reason; ‘The Paper Cinema’s Odyssey’ offers much to be impressed about. The sheer technicality of the show is astounding. The process of turning drawings on pieces of paper into live cinematic film is mesmerising, and it’s an equal joy to see the performers creating this experience right before you. The drawings themselves are simply wonderful, and capture the human emotions beautifully. The live band, who orchestrate the otherwise silent film, display an astonishing level of versatility and talent. My only complaint is that due to the lack of speech, the story occasionally became a little confusing; aside from this, such a compelling show needs no improvement.

Summerhall, until 25 Aug, 2.15pm.
