Superbard – The Flood (Tea Fuelled)

By | Published on Sunday 11 August 2013

An engrossing tale of destruction, cultish indie bands and coco pops, ‘The Flood’ is a multimedia story for the 21st century. Whilst I got the impression that Superbard has much more material than can be fitted into an hour’s slot, the characters he introduced in this slow apocalypse are well-developed. I have slight reservations about the live musical element to the show, particularly with the simplistic audience sing-a-long finale, as it detracts from the profoundness of the rest of the story; plus, the claim on the flyer of a show combining Sigur Ros and Kafka seemed a little exaggerated, though that’s no great crime. Superbard is on to something clever, which will appeal to those into esotericism and video games.

Underbelly Cowgate, until 25 Aug (not 12), 1.10pm.
